Established in 1913, The City Hall Library (formerly: The Municipal Reference and Research Center), is the statutory depository for all official reports and studies published by New York City government agencies. Agencies are required to submit four copies of each report to the library. The recently passed Local Law 11 of 2003 also directs agencies to post mandated reports on the Department of Records Website: wwww.records.nyc.gov.
In addition to approximately 250,000 reports, books and other publications, the library has an extensive collection of clippings and pamphlets on New York City matters. Selected state and federal publications pertinent to New York City are also on file.
Other special interest materials that are available include: -Biographies of City and State officials -Executive orders and local laws -Mayoral committees and commissions -New York City neighborhood files -New York City history -Annotated New York City street name index -Rules and regulations of New York City agencies -Board of Estimate Proceedings -The annual Civil List of current New York City employees, 1952 - present -Civil Service job descriptions, eligibility lists for New York City positions and pre-1990's exams.
