Walt Whitman School at 25 East 78th Street

In New York City, NY

Anyone heard of it? We are also searching for a Miss Louise Krueger who was the director of this school back in 1946.

Has anyone heard of it?

Yes, I attended the school between 1944 and 1947. Louise Kruger was the head. Nice teachers. Noteworthy was the fact that someone thought we should learn Chinese in the 1st grade and did not believe in teaching the alphabet or phonetics.  To this day I can't spell although otherwise fluent. .   Uniforms, tight under the arms.    During the war we were driven to school in taxis ( many children to one taxi. ) I was put up to sing solo what I much later realized was the Austrian Nat Anthem, Hitler's song, but with different words in an assembly program.  Go figure.
