DM, Scum Meister
Like to thank DM for acknowledging my retirement. Ran into DM on the last job I worked before putting in my papers. He works for DEP at Newtown Creek on Greenpoint Ave , not far from the old neighborhood. Good to see thaat he got a city job for himself as the last time I saw him, maybe 1994, he was homeless and living in the men's room at the Lowry Street Station of the #7 train. He pulled himself up and is now a sewage treatment worker and is in charge of the Scum Room at Newtown. He and his underlings, or scum-derlings as he likes to call them have the uneviable job of dredging the heavy grease and scum that can't be treated. He proudly showed me his Scum-Bucket that he uses to perform most of his work. I asked DM where the scum is sent to after he and his scumderlings muck it out of the scum pit and old DM just gave me a sly grin and said, "Can't give up my trade secrets". I suppose most would find him a bit pathetic, but he seems very happy as the SCUM MEISTER of THE CREEK. Hats off to the SCUM MEISTER!
