French Hospital records

I've learned on this site that the French Hospital may have merged to become the French Polyclinic Hospital. Does the French Polyclinic Hospital still exist? Can not find telephone or street address. I am looking for patient records from French Hospital circa 1949-50 to prove physical presence in USA for interested party. Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: French Hospital records

French Polyclinic

It appears that this hospital went bankrupt and closed at the end of 1975.  A story in the NYTimes, Oct. 9, 1975, (p. 45) stated that it had been ordered by a judge to shut down on Nov. 6, but that Ethel Merman and other show biz figures were trying to raise money to aid it.  Since its debts amounted to millions, no doubt it was beyond help.  There is no later story formally announcing that the hospital had closed.  The Oct. 9 story named Roosevelt Hospital and St. Clair's hospital as other nearby hospitals that might take over its business.  Perhaps they also took over its records.

It was the result of a merger in 1969 between the French Hospital, at 330 W. 30th, and the Polyclinic, at 345 W. 50th.  Acc. to the Times, both had been founded in 1881.  The two hospitals evidently had kept their separate buildings, but a few years before 1975 they had agreed to buy the New Yorker Hotel, at 34th st. and convert it to a hospital.  Apparently this move is what brought about the bankruptcy.

French Polyclinic Closure

I worked at facility for 17 years until its closure. I was never contacted by the court and I have many questions even now as to the disposition post the bankruptcy. I need to an official agency 7/or contact's name.

I, too, was born in the French Polyclinic Hospital, and was wondering if records are still available. My mother was Susan Goldstein. My name was Lorrie Goldstein.

Thanks in advance.

Re: French Hospital records

your mother, margaret stevenson

Dear Ogden:

I have known your mother since I was 16 years old. She was my mother's best friend and remains my friend to this day. I spoke to her yesterday. She spent her life trying to  find you and your twin brother Harkness. You were taken from her by your father when you were infants. She still talks about you and I made a promise to my mother to help find you both.

Re: French Hospital records

I was born at the French Polyclinic, Nov 9, 1972 and have been back to NY several times to see where I was born. I just found out thought that it was considered a part of Hells Kitchen.

Re: French Hospital records

I was born there also Dec. 1960 I have two missing brothers I never met I was told they were adopted but not sure. One was born March 1963. They were born to Mildred D. Todorovich. I also want to know what happened to the Medical Records for that hospital and how they could be obtained.

Re: French Hospital records

I was born at NY French Hospital in December of 1962. I was born under the last name of Frieda or Freida. I would like to find my birth parents and siblings. My adoptive mother only told me several years back that I was adopted and had two older siblings.
If anyone has any suggestions please send me an e-mail

Re: French Hospital records

French Hospital on West 30th St, NYC was also a teaching hospital. I knew several women who received their R.N. there and became commissioned Naval Officers in WW II. I also have several documents published by French Hospital with many names, titles, events, etc. In fact I have a baseball which my aunt gave "The Babe" to sign for me. She was his nurse shortly before he died in 1948. Anyone know who is writing the definitive history on NYC hospitals? Contact me at:
globalmkts@aol.com  OR   w25thmarines@aol.com. Regards, Bill

Re: French Hospital records

I was born in the French Hospital on 8-4-43 and have their certificate which merely states that I was born there,
the date and a hospital number M-19997.
It doesn't name my parents although I have an original birth certificate No. 26076 filed with the NYC Department of Health
on August 9, 1943 that names my parents (type-written) and signed by the MD who delivered me.
My parents married 2 years after my birth.  I need a document for legal purposes that demonstrates my fathers explicit
recognition/attestation that he was my father.  He passed away in 1978 and my mother passed away in 1998.
Did the French Hospital or the NYC Department fo Health require/maintain any additional supporting documents (e.g.
hospital admission forms) related to birth records that would include the mother and fathers signatures???
