Re: are we done??

Hi ed d & fellow board buddies..In response to your question ed, sadly, I'm afraid so. We have discussed so many topics and memories over the past 6 or 7 years that the only topics left are usually New York politics (and we know where many of those discussions lead to) and the deaths of famous people past and present. To my recollection we have all been interacting for approximately the past 6 or 7 years (please correct me if I am wrong) and it has seemed of late that there is a paucity of memories or topics left for us to talk about. I for one have truly enjoyed either reading or contributing to many of the topics spoken about. I will continue to scan this forum for interesting topics that I feel I can contribute to or learn new information about. How do you feel about this ed d? Best regards to all...DrSteve

Dr. Steve....alas I believe you are correct in your assesment. I too will keep a vigilant watch for "newcomers" or other topics but at this point, I believe the Russians and Chinese have won this territory

Re: are we done??

I too find very unfortunate that we are running out of subjects to discuss, however I do feel that I have made many additional friends in life by finding them on Gotham. It has been so enjoyable to have shared so many memories we all have experienced together by living in the Big Apple. I especially enjoyed the time when we were able to post pictures on the site as a picture is worth a thousand words. I know I have shared many of my childhood memories with you and you all did the same. We discussed the first bicycles we learned to ride all the way up to the first car we owned.
I know in the case of Ed and I ,our paths crossed so many times in life right down to using the same Dentist. Ed lived Way up on the Hill whereby my destiny was to live on the flats by the swamps. Although I have never formally met Ed,our paths crossed so many times at some the stores that he worked for. Carvel Ice cream being one of them.

Dr Steve, I would also like to thank you for all your professional advice you took the time to give us over the years. I'm sure with  your experience and training the advice that you gave always had our best interests at heart.

I will stay in touch and I wish all of my Gotham buddies past and present nothing but the best.
Your friend Jimbo

Re: are we done??

Ed D,Dr. Steve and Jimbo I concur. For most of us this has been a long run of fond memories and making of new friends on the site. I'm a little saddened that Gothman removed all of our old posts-hopefully they still exist in Gotham's Archives.
Until we meet again ,stay well.

Re: are we done??

It is sad to say it does look like the end.
I mean we could start over, I too noticed all but the last three pages of discussion have been purged.
It's sad that many of our friends that made those post are now gone.
Whether they were archived or not I do not know.
I however will always be fond of all the great discussions and all the great people I've met here.
At the same time i'd like to apoligize for any rants I was involved in.
I too will keep looking in.
Look at it on the bright side, in a few years as the mind grows weary, we will forget we were ever here. The one day we'll stumble across this place again and say "hey that seems like a nice site, I think i'll post there". Then we'll nap.
Best to all, stay in touch.
Peace

Where's the light switch?

My personal opinion is that the decision to have people register before they can post was the downfall of this site, I'm sure the reasoning for it was valid, but it cut off any "new blood" on to the site.

It was a fun ride while it lasted!

Re: are we done??

Yes, we have run out of topics. As Dr. Steve said, there's only NY politics left, & that's a slippery slope. I'm grateful for all of the wonderful & supportive friends I've made. NY can be proud of us.

Olivia, we may be the last of a dying breed.

Most of us are the children of the 50's and the 60's which is far as I'm concerned was the best times of my life.

Re: are we done??

And now the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I've travelled each and every highway
and more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets I've had a few
But then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each chartered course
Each careful step along the by-way
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Re: are we done??

Well, farewell my fellow Gotham posters especially the old Flushingites.  I have not posted in a long time as I sort of saw this coming down the road but glad I stopped by today.  I have one more final post to make before it's time to move.  Thanks to all my friends here.

Good to hear from you Joe. Now that we have Ice out I was wondering if you got in some early fishing?

Re: are we done??

Jimbo, unfortunately I have not as my daughters are sort of past the age when they want to fish with the old man at Kissena.  I do have a bicycle at home and have mapped out a route that can get me from my Long Island home to Kissena.  I never knew about the Vanderbilt PArkway but it's a popular mid-Queens road exclusively for cyclists.  I gave my oldest daughter a postable fishing pole she keeps in here car, perhaps I can cycle down to the Lake with it sometime soon for a Sunday of fishing, for old time sakes!

I have found out that my 22 year old nephew in South Carolina is an avid fisherman, and I hoping to get some time with him up here in the next year.

Re: are we done??

Sounds like a good plan you've got going.... I use to ride the the original Vanderbilt Parkway (motor parkway), with my friends all the way out to Minneola LI to buy BBs for our BB guns. At the time NYC outlawed the sale of BBs to anyone under18 whereby Nassau still allowed a16 year old to purchase them.
The old motor Pkwy was still pretty much intact back then so you could almost make the entire trip without using public streets. When we road our bikes back to Flushing with our stash of BBs we were constantly on the lookout for the cops thinking what we would have to say if we got caught smuggling BBs back into NY.

Re: are we done??

Olivia, I know that I mentioned it before but riding our bikes the full length of the motor pkway was an adventure I will never forget.
