Being beaten up by Pat Garrity

Pat was the terror of Elmhurst Blvd.  He must have been born about 1939 or so.  He stole people's bikes and beat other kids up a lot.  I think he went to St. Bartholomew's School.  He took my bike and I never forgot him.  Red haired and an evil grin.

Re: Being beaten up by Pat Garrity

barnegat, welcome aboard.
This kid Pat that you speak of was pretty close to my age. Although I grew up in Flushing, we also had our share of local bullies. It's been my experience that  most bullies will back down when confronted by somebody their own size and age. There are exceptions to this rule and maybe this kid Pat was one of those.
I had a close friend who along with myself hated bullies. If a bully crossed paths with my friend Marty Auster the bully would remember his pain for a long time. I never heard or know of Marty loosing a fight to one of these creeps and he always had the respect of our neighborhood.

There is only one way to take care of a bully. Hit him in the face with a two-by-four. When bullies think you are crazy, they will leave you alone.
